India spinner Harbhajan Singh has revealed that legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar asked him for ticket for the semi-finals and final at the 2011 World Cup.
Interestingly, Akhtar was part of Pakistan’s squad for the tournament, but didn’t feature in the semi-final clash with India, which the latter won by 29 runs.
India then took on Sri Lanka in the final and tasted World Cup glory after triumphing by six wickets.
“In 2011, I met Shoaib before the match and Shoaib Akhtar’s family had come and he asked me tickets for the semi-final. So I gave him four tickets. He didn’t play the semi-final,” Harbhajan Singh was quoted as saying by CricTracker.
“Then he asked me for the final tickets too. I said ‘what will you do with this? India will win and if you want to come and watch, I will give you two to four tickets’.”
Pakistan’s next World Cup match will be against Sri Lanka in Bristol on Friday.
