Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir has backed his side to bounce back after their World Cup loss to the West Indies.

Amir was the lone bright spot for Pakistan in the match as he finished with figures of 3-26 off six overs.

Pakistan ended up losing the match by seven wickets as they were bowled out for 105.

Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam were the top scorers as they both made 22 runs, while Wahab Riaz chipped in with a quickfire 18 at the end.

Mohammad Hafeez was the only other batsman to reach double figures as he made 16.

“This was the first World Cup game, and that is always important for the tournament as that is where the team gets its momentum from,” Amir was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “But, this can happen in cricket and any team will feel sad if they lose a match.

“What we need to do is to lift ourselves for the next matches of this tournament. No one has any doubts about this team’s abilities, but [we need to raise our] confidence in the future.

“In the Champions Trophy we lost the first game and then built momentum later on. We need to play with a positive mindset and should not get disheartened; we need to focus on the matches ahead.

“In this World Cup, whichever team plays fearless cricket will be the top side.”

Pakistan’s next match will be against hosts England in Nottingham on Monday.
