Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir sees himself as the national team’s “main strike bowler”.
Amir enjoyed a successful World Cup debut as he took three wickets in his side’s seven-wicket loss to the West Indies on Friday.
For Amir, his figures of 3-26 off six overs would have been a major relief as prior to the World Cup, he had five wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 92.60 since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in 2017.
“A bowler only gains confidence when he takes wickets and in my case, in the recent past, wickets had stopped coming,” Amir was quoted as saying by PakPassion.
“Now I have started taking wickets and this is also beneficial to the team if I, as [the] main strike bowler, am able to take wickets.”
Amir will no doubt be looking to add to his three wickets in Pakistan’s next match, which will be against hosts England in Nottingham on Monday.
