Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has branded Mohammad Amir as an “impact bowler” and noted that the left-arm seamer will be fully aware of what is expected of him during the World Cup.

Amir initially failed to make the cut as there were concerns over the fact that since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in 2017, he had only taken five wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 92.60.

However, he was included in the finalised World Cup squad, along with fellow left-arm pace bowler Wahab Riaz and big-hitting middle order batsman Asif Ali.

With the trio coming in, left-arm pace bowler Junaid Khan, all-rounder Faheem Ashraf and opener Abid Ali were axed from the side.

“We know Amir is an impact bowler and he knows his responsibilities and I am sure he will lift his bowling and get us early wickets,” Sarfraz told AFP.

Reports suggest that Amir will miss Pakistan’s World Cup opener against the West Indies on Friday as he is not healthy, but Sarfraz has since confirmed that he is fit and available for selection.
