Left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir is likely to miss Pakistan’s World Cup opener against the West Indies in Nottingham on Friday, according to sources.

Geo.tv reported that Amir has informed the team management that he is not fully fit and wants to have enough time to recover so that he can be available for Pakistan’s matches later on.

It is understood that the team management have agreed to let Amir be sidelined for Pakistan’s clash against the West Indies.

Amir didn’t play the last three ODIs against England since he was dealing with an infection that was thought to be chickenpox.

Amir initially failed to make the cut as there were concerns over the fact that since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in 2017, he had only taken five wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 92.60.

However, he was included in the finalised World Cup squad, along with fellow left-arm pace bowler Wahab Riaz and big-hitting middle order batsman Asif Ali.

With the trio coming in, left-arm pace bowler Junaid Khan, all-rounder Faheem Ashraf and opener Abid Ali were axed from the side.
