Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir has vowed to make his presence felt with the ball at the World Cup in order to repay the faith to everyone who constantly supported him.

Amir initially failed to make the cut as there were concerns over the fact that since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in 2017, he had only taken five wickets in 15 ODIs at an average of 92.60.

However, he was included in the finalised World Cup squad, along with fellow left-arm pace bowler Wahab Riaz and big-hitting middle order batsman Asif Ali.

With the trio coming in, left-arm pace bowler Junaid Khan, all-rounder Faheem Ashraf and opener Abid Ali were axed from the side.

Despite his lack of wickets and not making it into the World Cup squad when it was first announced, Amir admitted that he was touched by how much support he received.

“I am sure things will get better,” he told AFP. “I know I have not taken wickets but I have not bowled badly, so I am thankful to the team, selectors and others who have backed me and I will do my best to fulfill their confidence.”

Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on Friday.
