Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq has revealed that pace bowlers Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Hasnain were included in the finalised World Cup squad due to their experience and pace respectively.

Wahab was initially not included in the list of 23 probables for the World Cup, but was the third-highest wicket-taker in this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) with 17 wickets in 13 games for the Peshawar Zalmi at an average of 19.88.

However, he ended up being included in the finalised World Cup squad after the Pakistan seamers struggled during the five-match ODI series against England.

As for Hasnain, he is capable of bowling of speeds up to 150kph.

He has also claimed five wickets in five ODIs at an average of 60.60 and went wicketless in his only Twenty20 International to date.

“Like I said before Hasnain’s pace, which can touch 150kph, will add a new dimension to our bowling attack because the rest of the bowlers only penetrate the 130-140kph mark,” Inzamam was quoted as saying by cricketpakistan.com.pk. “Meanwhile, Wahab’s experience will help the side, especially if the ball is reversing a bit.”

Pakistan’s second World Cup warm-up game will be against Bangladesh in Cardiff on May 26.

They will then begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
