Azhar Ali believes that left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir “is definitely a very good bowler” and feels that he could get into Pakistan’s finalised World Cup squad if he performs well in the ongoing five-match ODI series against England.
Amir was left out of Pakistan’s World Cup team when it was announced last month.
Amir’s form in ODIs has been dismal since the conclusion of the Champions Trophy in June 2017 as he has taken five wickets in 14 matches at an average of 92.60.
However, Pakistan are allowed to make changes to their side without permission from the International Cricket Council (ICC) until May 23.
With that in mind, Azhar noted that Amir will be determined to make his presence felt during the ODI series against England.
“It’s up to the selectors but Amir is definitely a very good bowler,” the Pakistan batsman told the International Cricket Council’s website. “He’s lacked form in a few ODIs and didn’t perform up to his potential, but we all know he’s world-class.
“It’s up to the management and selectors to decide whether he’s up to it or not. If he performs well against England, he might just get in the squad.”
Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
