Ex-Pakistan opener Imran Farhat has claimed that former all-rounder Shahid Afridi used to blackmail the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over sponsorship and “ruined plenty of careers for his own good”.

Farhat’s comments come after Afridi criticised numerous legendary players in his autobiography, Game Changer.

Afridi has made serious allegations against legendary Pakistan batsman Javed Miandad and ex-pace bowler Waqar Younis, and lambasted former India opener Gautam Gambhir over his attitude.

However, Farhat hit back at Afridi on Twitter, saying that ex-PCB chairman Ijaz Butt wanted to drop him from the national team as he was creating problems for everyone.

“That’s why [the] Pakistan Cricket Board [wanted] to get read of him when Ijaz Butt was chairman, all team members [complained] about him,” Farhat said on Twitter.

He added that Afridi attempted to blackmail the PCB over matters that pertained to sponsorship.

He also lashed out at Afridi for lying about his age and keeping it a secret for decades.

“I am utterly ashamed from what I have heard and read so far regarding this new book of Mr Afridi, someone who has lied about his age for 20 odd years now decides to come clean and name and blame some of our living legends,” Farhat tweeted.

Farhat revealed that he has a lot of stories to tell about Afridi and called on those who have been “named and shamed” to make their voices heard.

“I have a lot of stories to tell regarding this so called saint we have had the pleasure of playing with. He [surely] is talented enough to become a politician,” Farhat said. “I have a fair few stories to tell and I urge all the players who have been named and shamed to speak up and tell the truth about this selfish player who has ruined plenty of careers for his own good.”
