Former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has warned the national team to be wary of England captain Eoin Morgan’s comments about them being capable of winning the World Cup.
A couple of days ago, Morgan had said: “Pakistan are probably second or third favourites for the tournament.”
However, Mushtaq feels that Morgan’s remarks could be a ploy to get Pakistan to lower their guard ahead of their limited overs tour of England, which will consist of a one-off Twenty20 International and five ODIs, and run from May 5 to 19.
After that series, Pakistan will kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
“As Pakistan is playing a series against England before the World Cup, the English players could use such statements to put the rivals under pressure psychologically,” he was quoted as saying by Dawn.
