Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed has called on the people of Pakistan to pray for the national team ahead of the World Cup.

Pakistan have not been in good form as of late, as during their tour of South Africa, they were whitewashed 3-0 in the Test series before losing the ODI and Twenty20 series 3-2 and 2-1 respectively.

Most recently, the men in green were beaten 5-0 by Australia in an ODI series in the United Arab Emirates. However, they rested a number of key players during that series, including Sarfraz, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali.

Despite their disappointing run of form over the past few months, Sarfraz is confident that Pakistan can turn their fortunes around if they have the support of the nation behind them.

“What has happened has happened but what I would like to request [is for the] Pakistan [people] to pray for us,” Sarfraz was quoted as saying by cricketpakistan.com.pk. “We will try to perform beyond our capabilities and try and do well in the World Cup.”

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a limited overs tour of England, which will run from May 5 to 19.

They will then kick off their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
