Veteran pace bowler Umar Gul feels that Pakistan are making a big mistake by not making the 23 World Cup probables participate in the ongoing Pakistan Cup.

Out of those 23 players, only two – Mohammad Rizwan and Abid Ali – are featuring in the domestic one-day tournament.

Rizwan is captaining Federal Areas, while Abid is playing for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Gul, who is Sindh’s skipper, feels that making the other players take part in the Pakistan Cup would have served as good practice ahead of the national team’s limited overs tour of England, which starts on May 5, and the World Cup, which gets underway on May 30.

“It would have been better if the players who have been selected for the World Cup provisional squad had played in the Pakistan Cup as this would have been good practice for them,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “Being a senior player, I think it would have been good preparation for the Pakistan squad for the tour of England and World Cup.”

Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign against the West Indies in Nottingham on May 31.
