Former Pakistan captain Aamir Sohail has called on the national selection committee to include batsmen Ahmed Shehzad and Ahsan Ali in the national team.

Sohail wants the duo to be given a chance to prove their worth following their strong performances for the Quetta Gladiators in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Shehzad was the ninth-highest scorer in the tournament with 311 runs in eight matches, which included four half-centuries, at an average of 51.83.

As for Ahsan, he accumulated 178 runs in eight games at an average of 22.25.

Shehzad has represented Pakistan in 13 Tests, 81 ODIs and 57 Twenty20 Internationals to date, while Ahsan has yet to make his international debut.

“Since we are experimenting, I would like to see two players [that] are in pretty good form tested by Pakistan,” Sohail was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “One is Ahsan Ali and the other is Ahmed Shehzad. I think that the selection committee should call them [up].”

Delving deeper into why he thinks Ahsan should be called up, Sohail said: “I believe that Ahsan Ali [has] a lot of spark if he gets utilized well, and the way he [batted] for the Quetta Gladiators in the last three or four matches was very impressive, alongside Ahmed Shehzad.”
