Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has admitted that Pakistan need to improve on their fielding if they are to maintain their spot atop the Twenty20 rankings.
Ramiz’s comments come after Pakistan’s six-run loss in the first Twenty20 International against South Africa in Cape Town.
While Ramiz attributed Pakistan’s loss to their disappointing performance with the ball and in the field, he noted that the national team are seriously lacking “gun fielders”.
“It was a pretty ordinary bowling performance; it seemed that the bowlers were terrified to bowl, especially with the new ball,” he was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “In T20 cricket, one can create number of opportunities through their fielding. Unfortunately, I can’t see any gun fielders in the Pakistani dugout except for Shadab [Khan] and Fakhar [Zaman], from which one can expect run outs and catches, so Pakistan needs to improve a lot in this department.”
