Former Pakistan pace bowler Aaqib Javed believes that left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir should be rested in order for Hasan Ali to get more opportunities.
Javed feels that Amir has failed to perform consistently since making his comeback to international cricket, and added that Hasan could be a better option in regards to taking wickets.
Amir was Pakistan’s most successful bowler in the three-Test series against South Africa as he picked up 12 wickets at an average of 23.58.
However, in the ongoing ODI series, Amir has only featured in two matches and claimed one wicket at an average of 62.
As for Hasan, he took six wickets in two Tests at an average of 44.50, and has snapped up two wickets in three ODIs against the Proteas at an average of 53.
“No doubt since making his comeback to international cricket, Amir has not been able to perform consistently,” Javed was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “So I believe that instead of dropping Hasan Ali we should have rested Amir in order to have a team with more wicket taking options.
“If we are using Amir just to contain the innings, then one can’t say that he is our number one bowler.”
