Sri Lanka pace bowler Dushmantha Chameera will miss the second Test against Australia in Canberra due to a left ankle injury.

Chameera is the latest seamer to be sidelined for the match after Nuwan Pradeep and Lahiru Kumara, who are both nursing hamstring injuries.

Chameera will now return home with Kumara, who is also set to miss the upcoming tour of South Africa as he will be out of action for four to six weeks, according to captain Dinesh Chandimal.

However, Sri Lanka are hopeful that Chameera will recover in time for the tour of South Africa, which begins on February 13 in Durban.

With Chameera, Pradeep and Kumara all sidelined, Sri Lanka have called up uncapped pace bowler Chamika Karunaratne.

Karunaratne, 22, has featured in 29 first-class matches and taken 59 wickets at an average of 34.16. He has also scored 998 runs, which includes a century and seven fifties, at an average of 24.95.

Sri Lanka were crushed by an innings and 40 runs in the first Test in Brisbane and will be looking to bounce back in the second Test, which gets underway on February 1.
