Chris Tremain took three wickets during a highly economical spell to lead the Melbourne Renegades to a convincing 78-run win over the Perth Scorchers.

Being put in to bat first, the Renegades got off to a solid start before captain Aaron Finch was caught by Nathan Coulter-Nile at long-off off the bowling of Matthew Kelly for eight runs.

Mackenzie Harvey, who opened the batting with Finch, managed to score 38 before he was caught by Scorchers skipper Mitchell Marsh at mid-on off the bowling of Andrew Tye.

Mohammad Nabi was the next to go, while Sam Harper made a quickfire 37 before he was clean bowled by Kelly.

With Cameron White retiring hurt on seven from an apparent hamstring injury and Tom Cooper scoring 19, the Scorchers ended up finishing on 157/5.

Kelly was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Tye and Usman Qadir chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 158 to win, the Scorchers lost opener Cameron Bancroft on the seventh ball of their innings as he was cleaned up by Tremain for one run.

Shaun Marsh suffered the same fate in Tremain’s next over, while Ashton Turner was caught and bowled by Kane Richardson for one run.

Mitchell Marsh became Tremain’s third victim as he was caught by Richardson after making five runs.

With the Scorchers reeling at 12/4, Hilton Cartwright and Nick Hobson managed to add 30 runs to the score before Hobson was dismissed by Cameron Boyce for 19.

Cartwright went on to score 14 before he was caught by Richardson at deep square leg off the bowling of Dan Christian.

Once Cartwright was gone, the Scorchers continued to crumble as they went from 45/6 to being skittled out for 79.

Christian was the most successful bowler with four wickets, while Tremain snapped up three, Boyce took two and Richardson claimed one.

Tremain was named Man of the Match.
