Pakistan left-arm seamer Usman Khan Shinwari is optimistic about his side’s chances of winning the World Cup later this year, but admitted that the road to victory will be extremely difficult.
The upcoming World Cup will be held in England and Wales, and many in the cricketing community have branded Pakistan as one of the favourites to lift the coveted trophy as they won the Champions Trophy in England in 2017.
While only 10 teams will be in the hunt for World Cup glory, Shinwari conceded that Pakistan cannot afford to be overconfident heading into the high-profile competition.
“Pakistan has excellent Twenty20 and One-Day sides and the teams have an excellent balance of good batsmen, all-rounders and fast-bowlers,” he told PakPassion. “Obviously, the upcoming World Cup will be a tough competition as it’s been held in England and the top teams of the world will be competing for the trophy, so it will not be easy for any team.
“But I am convinced that with the group of players we have now, we have the ability to take on the toughest of teams and we will try and win the 2019 World Cup.”
