India won their first-ever Test series in Australia after persistent rain led to the final day of the fourth Test in Sydney being washed out.
Starting off the day on 6/0, Australia didn’t add any runs to their overnight score due to the inclement weather.
With the rain refusing to relent, even after lunch was taken, the umpires, at 2.30pm local time, decided to call things off, which ended the match as a draw.
However, while India would have been looking to win the series 3-1, they will no doubt be thrilled with their 2-1 win as it tarnishes Australia’s perfect record against them at home, which has spanned for 71 years.
India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was named Man of the Match for his knock of 193.
He was also given the Man of the Series trophy for scoring 521 runs, which included three centuries and a fifty, at an average of 74.42.
