Hobart Hurricanes opener D’Arcy Short hammered 67 to lead his side to a 15-run win over the Brisbane Heat in Carrara.
Electing to bowl first, the Heat got the early breakthrough they were looking for as Hurricanes captain Matthew Wade was caught by Ben Cutting at point off the bowling of Mujeeb Ur Rahman for five runs.
Alex Doolan also made five runs before he was clean bowled by Mujeeb.
Short and Ben McDermott steadied things with a 59-run partnership before McDermott was run out by Josh Lalor for 25.
Short went on to score a 52-ball 67, which included four boundaries and four sixes, before he was caught by Cutting at cover off the bowling of Mark Steketee.

With George Bailey and Simon Milenko scoring 22 and 18 not out respectively, the Hurricanes finished on 159/6.
Mujeeb and Steketee picked up two wickets apiece, while Lalor chipped in with one.
Chasing 160 to win, the Heat lost opener Brendon McCullum early on as he was run out by McDermott for four runs.
Max Bryant smashed a 15-ball 30 before he was dismissed by Johan Botha.
Joe Burns and Sam Heazlett fell soon after, while Heat captain Chris Lynn was removed by James Faulkner after scoring 29.
The Heat continued to lose wickets after Lynn’s dismissal, but Cutting put up a fight as he walloped a 32-ball 58, which included two boundaries and five sixes, before he was sent packing by Jofra Archer.
Despite Cutting’s valiant knock, the Heat fell short of their target as they were bowled out for 144.
Faulkner was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Archer, Botha and Riley Meredith claimed two wickets each.
Short was named Man of the Match.
