Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed firmly believes that pace bowler Mohammad Abbas and spinner Yasir Shah will excel in the three-Test series against New Zealand.
Abbas is coming off a highly impressive showing in the recent two-Test series against Australia, where he was named Man of the Series for being the highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets at an average of 10.58.
As for Yasir, he claimed eight wickets at an average of 37.25.
Sarfraz admitted that he expects more of the same from Abbas, but added that he wants Yasir to do a little better against the Black Caps.
“Yes, our bowling attack is good,” Sarfraz was quoted as saying by PakPassion. “Abbas has been bowling superbly while Yasir didn’t look as great as we had expected, but in this series I expect more from Yasir.”
Pakistan have not beaten New Zealand in a Test series since 2011. With that in mind, Sarfraz made it clear that neither he nor any of his teammates will be taking the Black Caps lightly.
“New Zealand are a good side and gave us tough times both in the Twenty20s and one-day internationals,” Sarfraz said.
The first Test between Pakistan and New Zealand begins on Friday in Abu Dhabi.
