Sarfraz Ahmed was struck close to the left ear while batting on the third day

Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed was sent to hospital for precautionary scans on the fourth day of the second Test against Australia in Abu Dhabi.

Sarfraz was struck close to the left ear by a delivery from Australia pace bowler Peter Siddle while batting on the third day.

He was on 32 at the time of the incident, and after receiving treatment, he continued batting. He ended up making 81 before he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Marnus Labuschagne.

However, on the morning of the fourth day, he complained of a headache after waking up.

He was thus sent to the hospital to undergo scans, while Mohammad Rizwan donned the keeping gloves and took his place behind the stumps.

Asad Shafiq took over as captain in Sarfraz’s absence.
