Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah is backing his side to excel at the upcoming Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Bangladesh will kick off their campaign against Sri Lanka on September 15 in Dubai, and Mahmudullah knows it is imperative that his side start the tournament on a high.
Despite this, the 32-year-old knows that it would be unwise for his side to underestimate the island nation as they beat Bangladesh to win an ODI tri-series in Dhaka in January.
“I think we have got some good past memories against Sri Lanka from a few months back, but Sri Lanka is a very good team, and they are playing very good cricket and we have to be at our best to beat them. We have been preparing quite well, so hopefully we can deliver,” Mahmdullah was quoted as saying by the International Cricket Council’s website.
However, in addition to starting off on the right foot, Mahmudullah is determined to contribute with both the bat and ball throughout the Asia Cup.
“It always feels good to contribute to the team if the team is winning it feels even better,” he said. “I will try to keep it simple and try and contribute as much as I can.
“To be honest, I think all the teams are playing very good cricket at the moment, every team is very important and we can’t afford to be relaxed, and we need to take it game by game so that we can do well in the first stage.”
While Mahmudullah is confident that his side will perform well on the field, he hopes his side will receive a lot of support from the crowd. The Mymensingh native feels that his side always take their game to the next level if they are cheered on by their die-hard fans.
“Hopefully we are going to get a really good crowd here because plenty of Bangladeshis live here, and we hope they will come out and support us and we hope to deliver some good results for them,” he said.
