England batsman Alex Hales has lauded India captain Virat Kohli for his outstanding performances as of late and believes that England skipper Joe Root will break a number of England records.

Kohli has been the standout performer in his side’s ongoing five-Test series against England. Even though his side trail 3-1 going into the fifth Test at The Oval on Friday, Kohli is the highest run-scorer in the series with 544 runs, which includes two centuries and three fifties, at an average of 68.

Hales has been so impressed with Kohli that he said the 29-year-old is from a “different planet”.

“Virat Kohli is from a different planet while Root will go on to break records for English cricket,” Hales told Gulf News. “Kohli is almost from a different planet at the moment. He is playing a different game even in Test matches in England and on difficult batting pitches, he made it look very easy.”

Hales added that Kohli, in his opinion, is the best player in the sport right now.

“I would say he is head and shoulders above all and he does something special in all the matches,” Hales said.

As for Root, Hales is confident that the 27-year-old will rewrite England’s record books, given how talented he is.

“He is an incredibly special guy. Ever since he was 19, we all knew he is going to be one of the England’s greats,” he said. “He is only 27 now and has nearly 10 years left in him and may probably set some records for English cricket.”
