Gary Kirsten has replaced Daniel Vettori as head coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Kirsten, who will also be the Royal Challengers’ mentor, joined the franchise ahead of this year’s tournament as their batting coach.
However, he will now take over the head coach position from Vettori, who has been the franchise’s head coach since 2014.
Kirsten has coached India and South Africa, and led the former to World Cup glory in 2011 and to the top of the Test rankings. He also helped South Africa reach the summit of the Test rankings.
Kirsten also coached the Delhi Daredevils in 2014 and 2015, and the Hobart Hurricanes in the most recent edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).
“During the last IPL season, Gary has proved to be a brilliant mentor to both seasoned and young RCB players and we are confident that he will bring a fresh perspective to the team,” the Royal Challengers’ chairman Sanjeev Churiwala was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
