Wicketkeeper-batsman Devon Thomas and all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite starred as the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots crushed the Trinbago Knight Riders by 42 runs.

Thomas smashed a superb 58, while Brathwaite struck a 15-ball 41 before proceeding to take two wickets.

Opting to bowl first, the Knight Riders got their first breakthrough on the second ball of the match as Patriots opener Evin Lewis was caught by Sunil Narine at midwicket off the bowling of Ali Khan for a golden duck.

Ali struck again three balls later as he removed Tom Cooper for one run.

Patriots captain Chris Gayle and Thomas steadied things with a 66-run partnership before Gayle was removed by Kevon Cooper for 35.

Anton Devcich only scored 15 runs, while Thomas went on to make 58 off 34 balls, which included nine boundaries and a six, before he was cleaned up by Narine.

Mahmudullah fell shortly after, but Brathwaite and Ben Cutting provided some fireworks towards the end of the innings as they forged a 60-run stand.

Brathwaite ended up being dismissed by Ali on the penultimate ball of the innings for 41, which came off 15 balls and included a boundary and five sixes.

Cutting ended up making an 18-ball 25 as the Patriots finished on 203/7.

Ali was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Narine snapped up two, and Cooper and captain Dwayne Bravo chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 204 to win, the Knight Riders got off to an awful start as Narine was sent packing by Sheldon Cottrell for four runs on the third ball of the innings.

Chris Lynn, who opened the batting with Narine, only made six runs before being clean bowled by Sandeep Lamichhane.

Brendon McCullum failed to trouble the scorers, while Colin Munro hammered a 17-ball 35 before he was caught by Lewis at deep square leg off the bowling of Brathwaite.

Denesh Ramdin and Dwayne Bravo fell in quick succession, but Darren Bravo made 41 off 38 balls, which included a boundary and two sixes, before he was removed by Jeremiah Louis.

Ali fell for two runs, but Cooper went on a rampage as he walloped a 22-ball 42, which included two boundaries and four sixes.

Despite his efforts, Cooper could not lead his side to victory as they ended up falling well short of their target by finishing on 161/8.

Brathwaite, Cutting and Louis took two wickets apiece, while Cottrell and Lamichhane claimed one wicket each.

Thomas was named Man of the Match.
