Former Pakistan opener Yasir Hameed has admitted that he has been highly impressed with opening batsman Fakhar Zaman’s performances as of late.
Hameed’s comments come after Zaman struck a career-best 91 to help Pakistan win the T20 tri-series tournament in Zimbabwe as they defeated Australia by six wickets in the final.
Hameed noted that Zaman has developed a knack of rising to the occasion in high-profile matches as he also scored his only ODI century against India to lead Pakistan to Champions Trophy glory last year.
“He has not failed in any match and has carried the expectations, the pressure and the temperament very well throughout the series,” Hameed was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune. “He has always performed in pressure matches where most batsmen have failed. He played well in the Champions Trophy final match against India and now in this final against Australia; both are the top teams of T20 cricket.
“The batsman who handles the pressure and doesn’t panic in pressure matches like these always succeeds and Fakhar’s genius is that he takes out the pressure from the game and helps the team reach their target.”
