India have recalled veteran batsman Suresh Raina to replace Ambati Rayudu in their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England.
Rayudu was removed from the team after failing to pass a mandatory yo-yo fitness test.
In order to ensure their fitness levels are up to standard, all players have to attain a 16:1 mark, which is the minimum set for Indian players by strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu.
However, it is understood that Rayudu fell quite short of the minimum mark.
As a result, Raina, who was named in India’s squad for the two-match Twenty20 series against Ireland and the three Twenty20 Internationals against England, now has the opportunity to play in his first ODI since October 2015.
The ODI series between England and India gets underway on July 12 in Nottingham.
