India batsman Ambati Rayudu is set to be dropped for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England after failing to pass the yo-yo fitness test.
Rayudu took the test at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, along with a number of other players, including captain Virat Kohli and veteran wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni.
Rayudu was called up to the ODI squad following his performance for the Chennai Super Kings, who won this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 32-year-old was the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 602 runs, which included a century and three fifties, at an average of 43.
In order to ensure their fitness levels are up to standard, all players have to undergo the mandatory yo-yo test and attain a 16:1 mark, which is the minimum set for Indian players by strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu.
It is understood that Rayudu fell quite short of the minimum mark, but the BCCI have yet to confirm whether he will be cut from the squad.
The three-match ODI series between England and India gets underway on July 12 in Nottingham.
