Eoin Morgan: “I’ll be fine for the one-dayers”

England limited overs captain Eoin Morgan is optimistic that he will recover from his finger injury in time for the one-off ODI against Scotland on June 10.

Morgan fractured his right ring finger while fielding at backward point during Middlesex’s Royal London One-Day Cup loss to Somerset on Sunday.

As a result, he was ruled out of the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge charity match against the West Indies on Thursday at Lord’s.

Morgan was supposed to captain the ICC Rest of the World XI in the match, but former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi will now take over the leadership role.

Since his injury is expected to heal in seven to 10 days, Morgan reiterated that he will be ready for the ODI against Scotland and the limited overs series against Australia that follows.

“It’s not a huge concern, it’s one that hopefully we can manage past about a week when the swelling goes down. It’s not fractured into the joint, which is a really good result,” Morgan was quoted as saying by BT Sport. “I’ll be fine for the one-dayers. I will hopefully be back for one more Middlesex game, potentially two. We will wait and see.”

England’s limited overs series against Australia will consist of five ODIs and a one-off Twenty20 International.

The ODI series will begin on June 13 at The Oval, while the Twenty20 International will be held at Edgbaston on June 27.
