Ireland’s long-awaited Test debut got off to a soggy start as persistent rain led to the opening day of the historic fixture against Pakistan in Dublin being abandoned.
Ireland were granted Full Member status last June and there was a lot of hype coming into this match.
However, Irish and Pakistani fans, along with the rest of the cricketing community, were left frustrated and disappointed as the weather had the final say on the first day.
Not only was the Playing XI for both teams not announced, but a toss could not even take place.
Numerous inspections took place, but conditions were deemed inadequate each time. While play was scheduled to conclude at 6pm, the umpires decided to call things off at 3pm.
It is understood that the forecast for the next few days is a lot better. The second day will get underway at 11:00 local time or 10:00 GMT.
