India batsman Ambati Rayudu is back in the ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against England in July.
Rayudu has not played ODI cricket since June 2016, but a magnificent string of performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), where he is representing the Chennai Super Kings, brought him back on the selectors’ radar.
Rayudu is the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 423 runs in 10 matches at an average of 42.30 and a strike-rate of 151.61.
Shreyas Iyer also made the cut as he has been one of the Delhi Daredevils’ standout performers with 351 runs in 10 games at an average of 50.14.
As for uncapped pace bowler Siddarth Kaul, who has taken 13 wickets in 10 matches for the Sunrisers Hyderabad at an average of 21.69, he has been included in both the ODI and Twenty20 squads.
Lokesh Rahul also made the cut for both squads as the Kings XI Punjab opener is currently the top run-scorer in the IPL with 471 runs at an average of 58.87.
Despite having an excellent IPL season, Rishabh Pant, who is playing for the Daredevils, has been dropped in favour of Super Kings captain MS Dhoni.
Spinner Washington Sundar also features in both sides, along with pace bowler Umesh Yadav.
Meanwhile, batsmen Ajinkya Rahane and Manish Pandey were left out of the ODI squad, while seamer Mohammed Shami was overlooked for both squads.
Even though captain Virat Kohli has been named in the Twenty20 squad for the series against Ireland and England, it is likely he will miss the two matches against Ireland as he is likely to be playing for Surrey in their County Championship match against Yorkshire from June 25 to 28. The two Twenty20 Internationals against Ireland will be held on June 27 and 29.
