The Rajasthan Royals have signed New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi as a replacement for Afghanistan left-arm spinner Zahir Khan.
Zahir, who was bought for INR 60 lakhs at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in January, was ruled out of the tournament with an injury.
Zahir was one of four Afghanistan players to be picked at the IPL auction, with the other three being Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
As a result of Zahir’s injury, the Royals decided to pick Sodhi from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) list at his base price of INR 50 lakhs.
While this will be his first time playing in the IPL, Sodhi is coming into the tournament on a high as he has put up a string of excellent performances for New Zealand.
