Former Australia left-arm seamer Brendon Julian and spinner Brad Hogg both believe that batsman Chris Lynn should be left out of the Twenty20 squad until he proves his fitness.

Their comments come after Lynn dislocated his right shoulder while fielding during the T20 tri-series final against New Zealand in Auckland on Wednesday.

Prior to this, Lynn had a lot of problems with left shoulder and had to undergo three surgeries in two years.

Given that he keeps getting sidelined with shoulder injuries, Julian and Hogg reiterated that he shouldn’t be part of the Twenty20 team.

“There’s no doubt he’s frustrated, but I’m frustrated watching him,” Julian told Fox Sports News. “You look at him in the field, he just looks awkward. He just looks terrible.

“Seriously, in a T20 game where you can’t throw and you can’t dive, what are you doing in the side?”

Hogg added: “I just don’t see how they continue with Chris Lynn until he is fully fit, he’s played a full Big Bash season. He’s a fantastic player. You want him in the Australian set-up…but you can’t play a player who is under an injury cloud and can’t dive in the field.”

But, who should take Lynn’s place in the Twenty20 squad? According to Julian and Hogg, the best candidate is regular captain Steve Smith, who has not played a Twenty20 International since the 2016 World Twenty20.

“When they do play in that World Cup tournament in a year or two’s time, Steve Smith will come in for Chris Lynn unless he fixes himself up from that injury,” Hogg said.
