Australia batsman Cameron White has admitted that his recent call-up to the ODI squad will probably be the last chance he has to cement his spot in the national team.

In a surprising move, White was recalled to replace big-hitting batsman Chris Lynn, who was ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against England due to a calf injury.

Even though White had not played ODI cricket in nearly three years, the national selectors were impressed with his form in the Big Bash League, in which he represents the Melbourne Renegades.

But, after making scores of 15 not out and 17 in the second and third ODIs, the 34-year-old conceded that the clock is ticking in terms of the time he has to prolong his stay in the national team.

“I’m not stupid, I’ve got to make the most of my next opportunity if I get one,” White was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au. “That’s where it is. The ball’s in my court, I need to do something.

“I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself, but it’s hard not to. I’m realistic – it’s only going to be a short window to try and do something. I feel under pressure for sure.”

While England have already won the ODI series, White hopes to retain his spot in the last two games and continue batting at No.3.

“I feel like No.3 three suits me, it’s a good spot,” he said. “I’ve batted there for Australia before, made hundreds there before and batted at the top of the order for Victoria as well.

“I enjoy the ball coming on to the bat early. Adelaide, if I get an opportunity, is as good a place as any to bat. It’s my opportunity at the moment, I’ve got to grab it. Hopefully I get an opportunity on Friday and make some runs.”
