Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler is the best middle-order batsman in white-ball cricket.

Vaughan’s comments come after Buttler smashed a dazzling century in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney.

Buttler provided England with a major spark towards the end of their innings and proceeded to bring up his hundred off 83 balls, which included six boundaries and four sixes.

Given the way Buttler approached his innings, Vaughan even went as far as saying that he is a better middle-order batsman that India’s MS Dhoni.

“Buttler’s done this before for England. I remember in Dubai against Pakistan he just exploded from 50 to 100,” Vaughan said on BT Sport as quoted by The Cricketer. “He’s just got the gift, hasn’t he. I don’t there’s a better middle order batsman in world white-ball cricket.

“The Indians will go nuts because they’ll say ‘there’s MS Dhoni’. Well, I think Buttler’s just gone ahead of MS Dhoni because of his approach and because of the power he brings.”

Thanks to Buttler and Chris Woakes’ unbeaten 113-run partnership, England managed to finish on 302/6 off their 50 overs. Woakes concluded the innings on 53 not out.

“Timing is everything,” Vaughan said. “The timing for his [Buttler] team today – they were in a difficult situation – it was a very special partnership led by an unbelievable century from Jos.”
