Sachin Tendulkar: “No surprises there at all. You deserved it. Many congratulations”

Iconic India batsman Sachin Tendulkar lauded captain Virat Kohli after he was named ICC Cricketer of the Year, ODI Cricketer of the Year and Captain of the Year.

Kohli, who was also bestowed with the honour of captaining the ICC’s Test and ODI Teams of the Year, scooped up all the prizes following a stellar 2017.

During the qualification period from September 21, 2016 to the end of 2017, Kohli scored 2,203 Test runs, which included six double centuries, at an average of 77.80.

He also accumulated 1,818 ODI runs, which included seven centuries, at an average of 82.63. Kohli recently struck his 32nd ODI century and surpassed former Australia captain Ricky Ponting into second place on the all-time list of players with the most ODI hundreds. Kohli now only sits behind Tendulkar, who registered 49 centuries during his illustrious career.

The 29-year-old also amassed 299 runs in Twenty20 Internationals at a strike-rate of 153.

Via his Twitter account, Tendulkar said that he wasn’t surprised by the fact that Kohli had received so many awards.
