India captain Virat Kohli has been fined 25 percent of his match fee and given a demerit point for breaching the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct.

Kohli was found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game.”

The incident occurred in the 25th over of South Africa’s second innings on the third day of the second Test in Centurion. Following a rain delay, Kohli complained to umpire Michael Gough about the condition of the damp ball before proceeding to throw the ball into the ground in aggressive fashion.

Kohli accepted the offence and sanction proposed by match referee Chris Broad, which means there will be no need for a formal hearing.

The charge against the Indian skipper was levelled by on-field umpires Michael Gough and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Richard Kettleborough and fourth umpire Allahudien Palekar.
