Nathan Lyon took three wickets and Nic Maddinson smashed a brilliant 62 as the Sydney Sixers secured their second win of the Big Bash League season after thrashing the struggling Melbourne Stars by eight wickets.
Being put in to bat first, the Stars lost Luke Wright for seven runs as he was caught by Ben Dwarshuis at deep third man off the bowling of Sean Abbott.
Lyon then removed Kevin Pietersen and Ben Dunk in successful deliveries to leave the Stars reeling at 31/3.
Glenn Maxwell and Peter Handscomb steadied things with a 45-run partnership before Maxwell was caught behind off the bowling of Abbott for 28.
Handscomb was walking back to the pavilion the very next over as he was caught by Jordan Silk at wide long-on off the bowling of Lyon for 14.

James Faulker and Evan Gulbis gave the Stars a major spark towards the end of their innings as the duo put together a 50-run partnership before Faulkner was sent packing by Carlos Brathwaite for 28.
Gulbis ended up scoring 24 as the Stars finished on 128/7 off their 20 overs.
Lyon was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Abbott snapped up two and Brathwaite chipped in with one.
Chasing 129 to win, the Sixers lost opener Joe Denly in the fourth over as he was caught by Maxwell off the bowling of Faulkner for 12 runs.
Daniel Hughes and Maddinson made up for the loss of Denly and put the Sixers within touching distance of victory with their 92-run partnership, during which Maddinson sailed past his fifty.

Maddinson ended up making 62 off 31 balls, which included six boundaries and five sixes, before he was caught by Dunk off the bowling of Jackson Coleman.
Hughes went on to make 49 off 46 deliveries, which included six boundaries, as the Sixers won the match with 29 balls to spare.
Faulkner and Coleman claimed one wicket apiece.
Lyon was named Man of the Match.
