Legendary Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has called on captain Sarfraz Ahmed to “be serious with his form and fitness”.
Younis’ comments come after Pakistan have been outplayed in their ongoing ODI series against New Zealand, which they have already lost with two games remaining.
The 40-year-old, who is Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in Test cricket, urged Sarfraz to lead by example in order for the national team to turn their fortunes around.
“The team’s performance revolves around the performance of the captain and that a captain needs to be an example for his rest of the teammates,” Younis was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder. “When you are a captain, then you have more responsibility on your shoulder.
“To lead from the front, Sarfraz needs to be serious with his form and fitness. He [Sarfarz] needs to give himself some time.”
Younis added that he is willing to help out in any way possible, whether is be to advise players to become a batting consultant or coach.
“This was the team that won Champions Trophy for us, they were the same players. We do face problems in NZ every time,” the Mardan native said. “We need to back the players.
“If the team needs me in role of players’ development as batting consultant or coach, I am always available.”
