New Zealand batsman George Worker has been recalled to the ODI side after pace bowler Doug Bracwell was ruled out of the first two ODIs against Pakistan with a hamstring injury.
Bracewell recently made his international comeback after nearly a year and enjoyed a lot of success against the West Indies.
However, he suffered the injury on Wednesday and will undergo a medical assessment to determine how long it will take for him to recover.
“Doug’s worked really hard to make it back into the side after a pretty serious injury last year and he’s impressed in the opportunities he’s had,” New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson said. “We know he’s a hard trainer and back him to rehab well and be available for selection in the not too distant future.”
Worker was dropped from the ODI squad for the Pakistan series as opening batsman Martin Guptill returned, but with Bracewell out, he was brought back in as he was in good form against the men from the Caribbean. In that series, Worker struck two half-centuries in three matches.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme is set to make his international return after taking some time off following the death of his father.
The five-match ODI series between New Zealand and Pakistan gets underway on January 6 in Wellington.
New Zealand’s ODI Squad: Kane Williamson (capt), Todd Astle, George Worker, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor
