Ben Laughlin took four wickets and Rashid Khan chipped in with two as the Adelaide Strikers crushed the Sydney Thunder by 53 runs.

Electing to bat first, the Strikers lost opener Jake Weatherald early on as he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Mitchell McClenaghan for eight runs.

Alex Carey and captain Travis Head made up for Weatherald’s dismissal with a 79-run partnership before Head was caught behind off the bowling of Arjun Nair for 36.

Carey went on to make 44 off 26 balls, which included five boundaries and two sixes, before he was sent packing by Nair.

The Strikers began to lose wickets at regular intervals once Carey departed, but thanks to Jake Lehmann’s quickfire 23, his side were able to finish on 163/6.

Nair was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while McClenaghan snapped up two.

Chasing 164 to win, Thunder opener Jos Buttler could only muster 10 runs before being dismissed by Peter Siddle.

Head then proceeded to take out Thunder skipper Shane Watson before Rashid struck twice to remove Ryan Gibson and Ben Rohrer.

Kurtis Patterson was the only batsman to put up a fight as he smashed 48 off 37 deliveries, which included four boundaries and a six, before he was caught by Siddle at midwicket off the bowling of Billy Stanlake.

With Patterson gone, Laughlin came in and mopped up the tail. The Thunder were eventually skittled out for 110.

Laughlin was the most successful bowler with four wickets, while Rashid and Siddle took two wickets apiece. As for Stanlake and Head, they claimed one wicket each.

Rashid was named Man of the Match.
