West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite struck seven boundaries and a six during his unbeaten knock of 79

Kraigg Brathwaite and Shimron Hetmyer scored 79 not out and 66 as the West Indies made a strong start after New Zealand declared with a 386-run lead.

Starting off the day on 447/9, New Zealand debutant Tom Blundell and left-arm seamer Trent Boult converted their five-run partnership into an unbeaten 78-run stand, during which Blundell brought up his hundred, before New Zealand declared on 520/9.

Blundell finished on a career-best 107 not out, which came off 180 balls and included 13 boundaries and a six, while Boult remained undefeated on 18 off 60 deliveries, which included a boundary and a six.

Kemar Roach was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Miguel Cummins and Roston Chase took two wickets apiece. As for Shannon Gabriel and West Indies captain Jason Holder, they chipped in with one wicket each.

Trailing by 386 runs, the West Indies made an excellent start to their second innings as Brathwaite and Kieran Powell amassed a 72-run partnership before Powell caught caught and bowled by Matt Henry for 40.

Brathwaite and Hetmyer kept the runs flowing with a 94-run partnership, during which both batsmen surpassed their half-centuries.

However, just as the West Indies had entere cruise control, Henry provided the breakthrough for New Zealand again as he removed Hetmyer for a career-best 66, which came off 89 balls and included eight boundaries and two sixes.

Brathwaite and Shai Hope ensured the West Indies ended their day on a high as they put together an unbeaten 48-run stand before stumps was called.

Brathwaite scored 79 off 186 balls, which included seven boundaries and a six, while Hope made 21 off 66 deliveries, which included four boundaries.

Henry was the only bowler to take any wickets.

The West Indies ended day three on 214/2 and will continue batting on Monday at 11:00 local time or 22:00 GMT (the day before).
