Colin de Grandhomme smashed a 74-ball 105 as New Zealand claimed a 313-run lead on the second day of the first Test in Wellington.

De Grandhomme was well supported by Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls and debutant Tom Blundell, who scored 93, 67 and 57 not out respectively.

Starting off the day on 85/2, New Zealand lost opening batsman Jeet Raval early on as he was caught behind off the bowling of Kemar Roach for 42.

Taylor and Nicholls made up for the loss of Raval with a 127-run partnership, during which both batsmen surpassed their half-centuries.

However, with Taylor on the verge of bringing up his century, disaster struck as he was trapped lbw off the bowling of Roach for 93, which came off 160 balls and included 10 boundaries.

Taylor was not given out initially, but the West Indies reviewed the decision and it worked in their favour as replays showed that the ball was pitching in line and hitting off stump.

Nicholls went on to score 67 off 156 deliveries, which included eight boundaries, before he was caught by Shannon Gabriel at fine leg off the bowling of Miguel Cummins.

Even though Mitchell Santner fell shortly after for 17, De Grandhomme and Blundell stabilised the innings with a 148-run stand, during which De Grandhomme brought up his hundred and Blundell his fifty.

However, not long after registering his maiden Test hundred, De Grandhomme was on his way back to the pavilion as he was dismissed by Roston Chase for 105 off 74 balls, which included 11 boundaries and three sixes.

Neil Wagner and Matt Henry only made three and four runs respectively, but Blundell and Trent Boult put together an unbeaten five-run partnership before stumps was called.

Blundell finished on 57 off 100 balls, which included six boundaries, while Boult remained undefeated on two.

Roach was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Cummins and Chase snapped up two wickets apiece. As for Gabriel and West Indies captain Jason Holder, they took one wicket each.

New Zealand ended day two on 447/9 and will continue batting on Sunday at 11:00 local time or 22:00 GMT (the day before).
