India opener Murali Vijay and batsman Cheteshwar Pujara scored 128 and 121 not out respectively to give their side a 107-run lead on the second day of the second Test in Nagpur.

Starting off the day on 11/1, Vijay and Pujara converted their four-run partnership into a 209-run stand, during which Vijay brought up his hundred and Pujara his fifty.

With the duo having put India in the driver’s seat and given them the lead, things weren’t looking good for Sri Lanka.

However, the tourists finally got the breakthrough they had been searching for when Vijay was dismissed by Rangana Herath for 128, which came off 221 balls and included 11 boundaries and a six.

That was to be Sri Lanka’s only taste of success for the rest of the day as Pujara and India captain Virat Kohli amassed an unbeaten 96-run partnership, during which Pujara registered his century and Kohli his half-century, before stumps was called.

Herath took the only wicket that fell on the second day, while Lahiru Gamage was responsible for Lokesh Rahul’s dismissal on the first day.

India ended day two on 312/2 and will continue batting on Sunday at 09:30 local time or 04:00 GMT.
