Pace bowler Tom Curran has been added to England’s Ashes squad as a replacement for fellow seamer Steven Finn, who was ruled out of the series.
Finn’s hopes of featuring in the Ashes went up in smoke after he was diagnosed with a tear in his left knee cartilage.
Curran has yet to play Test cricket, but has been impressive in the lone ODI and three Twenty20 Internationals he has played to date.
Curran took one wicket in his ODI debut against the West Indies in September and has claimed six wickets in the three Twenty20 Internationals at an average of 16.83.
In regards to his first-class career, the 22-year-old has picked up 171 wickets in 51 matches at an average of 29.14.
Curran will fly out on Wednesday to join up with the rest of his England team-mates in Adelaide.
“I’m delighted, I’m excited,” Curran was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “It’s all pretty new still. I only found out a couple of hours ago. I’m very proud. I’m humbled. It’s been a year I’ll never forget.
“I’m very excited to get to Australia; very proud and very humbled and privileged to be experiencing this.”
The Ashes series between England and Australia begins on November 23 in Brisbane.
