England have been dealt a huge blow after it was confirmed that pace bowler Steven Finn would play no part in the upcoming Ashes series due to a knee injury.
Finn sustained the injury while batting in the nets last week and subsequently underwent scans, which revealed a tear in his left knee cartilage.
The 28-year-old will return to the England and visit a knee specialist to determine whether he will need to undergo surgery.
Finn was a late call-up to the Ashes squad as he replaced all-rounder Ben Stokes, who was withdrawn from the side following his alleged street fight outside a nightclub in Bristol.
Just last week, Finn admitted that he had a “point to prove” during the Ashes as he was not part of the initial squad.
“You have always got a point to prove when you’re in an England shirt,” he had said. “When you’re a late call-up to the squad and have been out of selection for the last six months or so, you definitely have a point to prove.”
A replacement for Finn is expected to be named soon.
