Ireland and the West Indies could do nothing but watch as the match was washed out

The one-off ODI between Ireland and the West Indies in Belfast ended in disappointment as the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled or a toss taking place.

Coming into the match, the West Indies would have been looking to bounce back as they lost their last ODI series 3-1, which came against India from June to July.

Ireland, meanwhile, failed to win a single match in their last ODI assignment, which was a tri-series against New Zealand and Bangladesh prior to the Champions Trophy.

While it rained heavily overnight, the weather took a turn for the better three hours before the start of the match as the sun was shining.

But, with the outfield being deemed to be too soggy to play on, a frustrating wait ensued for both the players and fans.

In the end, the slight glimmer of hope for the match going ahead was washed away when the rain returned during the lunch break.
