Pakistan pace bowler Hasan Ali, who was the highest wicket-taker at the Champions Trophy earlier this year, enjoyed a fantastic Caribbean Premier League (CPL) debut as the two wickets he took during his economical spell helped the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots take down the Guyana Amazon Warriors by four wickets in Lauderhill, Florida.

Being put in to bat first, the Amazon Warriors lost captain Martin Guptill early on as he was clean bowled by Samuel Badree for 23.

Babar Azam made a 30-ball 21 before falling to Carlos Brathwaite, which led to Hasan getting rid of Jason Mohammed and Steven Taylor, who plays for the United States of America.

Opening batsman Chadwick Walton managed to survive up till the point and carried on fighting until he was ultimately dismissed by Sheldon Cottrell for 60 off 51 balls, which included three boundaries and two sixes.

With Keemo Paul and Sohail Tanvir departing not long after, the Amazon Warriors ended up being restricted to 123/7 off their 20 overs.

Hasan and Cottrell picked up two wickets apiece, while Badree and Brathwaite chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing 124 to win, Patriots opener Evin Lewis was trapped lbw off the bowling of Steven Jacobs for one run on the seventh ball of the innings.

Rayad Emrit then proceeded to take the golden wicket of captain Chris Gayle and also had Mohammad Hafeez caught behind for 19.

Even though the Patriots slipped to 57/5 after Devon Thomas and Brandon King were removed for four and 11 respectively, they managed to claw their way back into the game through Brathwaite and Jonathan Carter’s 49-run partnership.

Brathwaite ended up falling for a 19-ball 31, but Carter’s led the Patriots across the finish line with his unbeaten knock of 29.

Jacobs and Emrit took two wickets apiece, while Tanvir claimed one.
