Sri Lanka pace bowler Lasith Malinga will face a disciplinary inquiry for breaching the terms of his contract on two occasions after the Champions Trophy.

The inquiry, which will be carried out by a “disciplinary Panel comprised of Hony. Secretary SLC Mr. Mohan de Silva, Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ashley de Silva and Chairman Disciplinary Committee Mr. Asela Rekawa AAL”, comes after Malinga compared the country’s sports minister, Dayasiri Jayasekera, to a monkey.

In a statement released by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the board said Malinga had on “two occasions since his return from the Champions Trophy acted in contravention of the terms of agreement which specifically bar him from making any statements to the media without the prior written consent of the Chief Executive Officer”.

SLC had decided to take disciplinary action against Malinga after his first “infraction”, which occurred on June 19. However, with a second violation occurring on June 21, the board’s executive committee decided to speed up the inquiry.
